Game Preview - Havelocks SC~Round 2

Apologies for the late entry, but I have just been informed that Navy SC have defeated the Army SC by 18 – 15 so hopefully that puts a smile on a few faces and highlights that fact that the Navy SC are on the up. Let's hope the gentlemen form Welisara can sink their teeth into the silvertails from Kandy . I am backing either CH, Army SC or Navy SC to knock Kandy over in the next 3 weeks or at least get a draw.

Enough said regarding the opposition as the team need to stay focused on the week's match v Havelocks which is shaping up to be a crucial match for us. Kandy put 9 tries on them and eroded some of the lead we had on them so this week the team will be looking to get maximum points v Havelocks and score 10 tries. This is no easy task because it takes real focus and when you are scoring tries at will it can be really demanding on the fitness as they don't get time to fully recover before the next length of the field “breakout”.

I am quite sure the Havelocks team will be much more functional this round due to having time to get their act together following some heavy defeats over the past few weeks. Our last match produced some of the best rugby the team has played this year and we were fortunate enough to rewrite the record books and won 64 – 0. I am expecting a much closer affair on Sunday and the team will need to be focused and set the scene early in the match to ensure we achieve our goal of acquiring maximum points.

Our strength will be all across the park and I feel our forward play this week should be unmatched and expect to see some great rolling mauls and strong set plays especially at the scrummage. Our backs are looking to be silky smooth once again and produce the line breaks early in the match and get some good points in the first half. I really feel that the forwards will dominate and our continuity will be good which will in turn lead to good clean ball to our talented backline. Rodda and the boys will be experimenting with some new back plays which should see the centers and wings slicing through the defence early.

I am confident that we will record a good result but I am sure that the Havelocks team will give the CR & FC boys some opposition too. We have been working on our defence from phase play and also our lineout defence with a view to tightening things up leading into the harder matches over the next couple of weeks. Once again we look forward to the support of our members and club supporters
