Distance Lateral Passing |
|
Description
- 4 Players (A) start at the end of a 10m (wide) x 15m (long)
grid and on coaches instruction begin running forward performing
a controlled (short) lateral pass.
- Once the players reach the end of the grid, they are to quickly
move to the wide markers and turn to face were they have come
from.
- Players must realign with appropriate depth
- As soon as the ball carrier gets to the marker they begin moving
forward performing an appropriate lateral pass to cover the increased
width.
- Next Group to start as soon as first group reaches the end
of the small grid
Variations/Progressions
- Only allow the spiral pass to be performed on the way back with
the wide controlled passing.
- Add switch and cut pass to the small passing grid.
- Defenders with shields may be added to the small grid to ensure
opposed practice.
Coaching Points
- Ensure players run straight remaining in their channel
- Players should align with depth so they can move onto the ball
and this will also provide good vision and allow the supporting
player to react to the ball carriers m’ment.
- Control the ball by having hands outstretched ready to take
the ball early. Players must advance the ball to ensure Go Forward
is achieved
- Soft hands and control the ball, don’t skip pass Look
at your target and transfer across your body.
- Pass ball into the space in front of the lateral receiver (FOR
HIM) not to him
