The result against Police SC should have read 100 – 0 rather than 51-3 but unfortunately at key times our final pass or lack of patience lead us down the wrong path and we missed several opportunities to score in both halves of the game. It was pleasing to see that the players absorbed the early onslaught from Police SC and held the ship steady to provide the platform to post and easy win in the end. The team is very happy with the defensive record to date and with only 1 try against us and few penalties registered we are proud to have the best defensive record in the competition. We set ourselves a goal to have a clean sheet after the first 3 matches and although we went close the players are disappointed to let in the late try v Army SC. As all would have read in the papers there were some great performances by the players especially Rinaz, Pushpe and our backrow of Pavi, Wala and Nawaz. Zulker stole the show and played the house down showing what a devastating player he is when he get inot broken play. Injury concerns arose early in the match with several players involved in nasty head clash situations that lead to Boteju leaving the field with a badly broken nose and a gash requiring several stitches. Our main injury concern is to Lock Hasitha who has possible Lateral ligament damage and will consult an orthopedic surgeon this week. With the A’s drawing the Bye this weekend the B’s will be the only team in the action when they line up against the Puffins. The B side have been traveling OK so far and with limited numbers on the field have performed well under the circumstances.
This week we will need to drop a couple of the regular A reserve players back into the B side to continue the development of their match fitness. It is most likely that Anuja, Naufer, Podi, Sandun and Sherrif will start for the B’s this week which will mean the B’s team will be good to watch with some added flair in the mix. Good to see Club veteran Savantha turning out for the first time this season when he pulled the boots on for the B side v Police and by the looks of his face following a few runs he is missing some match fitness but will have the opportunity to play another full game v Puffins to help his progress back into the a side in the future. Special mention to Aravinda our young scrumhalf and also our smallest player who acquitted himself very well in his first senior game for the club against Police in the B’s. Other good performances in the B’s from Roshan Peiris, Udaya Hettiarchichi and Fullback Anushka Perera ensured the B side put up a good fight v Police B’s. The support for the teams against Police SC and Army SC have been sensational and we hope you can all make it to cheer the B’s to victory v Puffins. Kick of at 5.15pm Saturday at CR & FC
