Our hit out last week against CH was welcomed although I thought we could have capitalized on the opportunities that were on offer especially early in the match. There were times when the CH defence were standing a man out in the backline to contain our three quarters and credit to the CH coaches who planned well there as we struggled a bit to problem-solve on the pitch and find ways to counter this ploy. Even though they had the extra man, at times we sliced through them but unfortunately the last pass or a brain explosion by the player in possession forced unwanted errors. Unfortunately we also found the ball playing for the opposition in the last 2 minutes when it bounced away from Pushpe and he slipped to let in a try which was unfortunate.
This week's much anticipated match with Kandy is what it is all about and we are fortunate to have a situation were we are faced with another unbeaten outfit and from all reports this has ensured that the crowd at London place will be massive with some even predicting 15,000 – 20,000 in attendance. For the record I am as nervous as the next bloke about the big match this Saturday and I am sure that the players are feeling it too.
Kandy are the glamour boys of rugby and CR are the glamour boys from Colombo so it will be a big occasion for all involved in rugby in Sri Lanka . Much speculation about who has the best backline has passed through the media in recent weeks and I would like to say that CR has the most skilled and all round backline in the country. Our forwards had the perfect warm up Vs CH last week and are primed for the Kandy pack.
With a lot of Sri Lanka players in action this weekend there should be some quality and exciting rugby on offer for the spectators and we hope they appreciate the spectacle. Another important issue is who will win and I can't shed much light here but am willing to say that I am comfortable with our team and what they are capable of and they will play very well on Saturday. I feel our defence will contain their backline and they will struggle to contain ours. Up front I think it will be evenly matched at phase play but at set play CR will dominate proceedings.
We look forward to your support again on the weekend.
