CR
Gun down Army
The
red shirts recorded their 3rd successive win for the season when
they beat Army by a convincing margin of 46-21 at Longden place
on Friday. CR led 29-11 at the lemons. CR scored first, when in
the fourth minute of play through flanker Kasun De Silva with Senthil
adding the extra points from a somewhat difficult angle. Then it
was Army’s turn to score with center Asanga Perera scoring
mid right. Pint sized Silva missed the conversion. CR increased
the lead through a 40 meter penalty by Senthil showing glimpses
of his last season’s kicking form. Army replied through a
Silva penalty from almost the 50 meter line. CR by now were playing
according to a plan and were controlling the game. No 8 Lewke scored
first followed by Kasun’s 2nd try which was converted by Senthil.
Army reduced the lead once again through a Silva penalty, but Nishan
De Silva of CR scored for the red shirts just before the short whistle
and Senthil added the extra points to give the red shirts a healthy
29-11 lead at the lemons.
Mohamed Jabar playing as center on resumption scored in the 3rd
minute of the second half by intercepting a wayward Army pass and
ran 70 meters to score under posts for Senthil to add the extra
points. This try was followed by a beautifully dummied try by scrum
half Buksh. Army scored twice through winger Handhapangoda and Alawattegama
but it was left to full back Ashan De Costs to put the finishing
touches to the game by scoring by the left corner flag. Senthil
missed the conversion from the left touch line. CR walked out convincing
winners by a healthy margin. Final score CR 46 – Army 21.
Next weekend the red shirts will confront the much criticized Old
Zahira team. It will be a good opportunity for CR to give some of
their youngsters an opportunity to gain match practice before the
more important games against CH, Havies and Kandy.
