CR come out with all guns blazing against Army!

Despite the scorching heat the CR team playing some wonderful open rugby completely overwhelmed the Army, beating them quite convincingly 26- 13. In fact during the first 20 minutes the Army were completely shaken by the fire power of the CR which resulted in 2 tries and a penalty. The first points were scored when Danushka Pushpakumara put over a penalty. Two tries from Walpola and Mushtaq followed in quick succession with Pushpakumara converting one try and a further penalty to add the extra points. CR team kept up a relentless pressure right throughout the first half preventing the soldiers from making any headway against some fierce defending from the entire team. Towards the end of the half the soldiers managed to get their first points on the board through two penalties with the scores reading 18-6 at half time.

In the second half the CR team enjoyed much possession and although several threatening moves were made by both three quarters and the forwards they were unable to add much to the score until captain Pavithra Fernando broke away from a line out to score a classic try. Although Pushpakumara failed with the conversion, he had earlier put over another penalty which gave the CR a unassailable lead of 26 points. In the dieing stages of the game the Army were able to finally cross the defence lines of the CR to score their solitary try of the game.

Improving with every game, the team is coming together well and the season looks good for the CR team. It was encouraging to see the large number of fans who made their way to Galle Face on Friday. With the match against Police on Sunday May 8th being the teams first home game we are looking forward to a huge turn out of fans to support the men in red and blue. GO CR!!
