An early chance at putting some points on the board was wasted when Havelocks missed a penalty from an easy angle. CR & FC then opened the scoring from a turnover. The backline worked as they would throughout the game, clinical and unsympathetically. A perfectly placed kick saw Mushtaq collect and score, and with the conversion good, CR led 7 -nil. They showed clear intentions of continuing with the try scoring habits from their recent outings.
The next to go in was Sheriff with a somewhat fortuitous try. (It looked like a knock on to everyone else). He soon got his second 5 minutes later when the line was worked to the end with everyone having a touch. Havies seem to have a little problem with re-organising their defense. The extra man out wide was blatantly obvious to everyone but the team that should have covered him. Havies failed to close down their rivals, and this was to eventually be their undoing.
CR continued to strut their stuff with impressive attacks, it seemed like they had the ball on a string at times. 1st Five eighth Rajith Jayasundara got his first Try in similar fashion to the first, a clever little chip over the top and a kind bounce saw him touch down as if the move had been well rehearsed. In general, the way the CR back line read the game was beautiful. Each move looked more decisive than the previous one. Havelocks in comparison played with all the flexibility of recently unwrapped goods. They had no answers and when they did get the ball, it seemed that they had limited options with even less time to execute them. Their 2nd phase ball was a struggle to secure as the CR forwards were almost always first to the breakdown.
CR kept their foot on the pedal. They sensed that they were on the right side of a hiding. The back three Pushpay, Mushtaq and Sheriff were having a good day at the office as they ran around their opposites with ease.
The next Try came through lock (number 5). A questionable try as CR came from an off side position however the referee had no doubt and was quick to award the Try. You couldn't help but feel that the Havelocks were unlucky at times but either way it would have no bearing on the result. CR went into the break leading 33 points to nil.
The next 40 minutes saw more of the same. Rajith got his 2nd Try, when Walpola made a good break, some poor tackling by Havies ensured the CR backs of a try fest. Rodda made another break as did Kalu, it seemed like they were just waiting their turn at having a crack at the fumbling Havelocks backline. The Havelocks however, looked much better in the 2nd half and stopped CR from finishing a few good moves.
Rodda got on the board with a try under the sticks as he brushed aside some feeble defence, as did Rajith before diving over for his 3rd Try.
CR now led 50 points to nil. A half a century up already with 15 minutes to go. Perhaps the team was encouraged by the All Blacks performances a few hours earlier, the 48-18 drubbing of the best of the British Isles can inspire any young rugby team around the world.
Rajith got his 4th try bursting through and it's easy to say that he was the man of the match, however this title must be shared with the likes of the Pushpay who had an outstanding game. He capped it off with a brilliant individual effort at the end. CR finished off a hapless Havelocks side 64 – Nil.
Havelocks were spirited, but you could not help but notice the lack of proper coaching, especially executing the basics. The kick offs going into touch the poor set pieces. The lack of communication at lineout time, were all signs that the Havelocks management really aren't serious about their season. It wasn't always easy for CR, as the scoreboard would show. The forwards had to grind out good ball and that's a testament to the never-say-die Havelocks pack. But that was never going to be enough against the strength & technique that the red shirts brought to the party.
